Smartwatches Take On Mobile Casinos

The smartwatch is a recent piece of tech that you can wear on your arm, and falls into the category of wearable tech.  It integrates in various ways with your mobile phone to offer many of the same features, such as mail and messaging, but in a more condensed way.

It is not a replacement for a smartphone but rather a way to obtain extra convenience and functionality from a mobile device.

Will Mobile Devices Be Dethroned?

Smartwatches have been around for a while now, and they have not had the revolutionary effect on the market in the way that the media hyped they would. These intelligent watches have however found a home on many people’s arms, due to the fact that they can unobtrusively supplement your mobile device.

So now that we are not approaching the smartwatch as mobile replacements, we can subjectively look at this wearable as a competitor for smartphone and tablet casino gaming.

Right off the bat I can say that smartwatches will not be replacing mobile devices when it comes to gaming and I’m going to tell you why.

Screen Real Estate

The biggest hurdle for a smartwatch is of course, the smaller screen. Smartphones already posed a challenge for many casino game developers. They had to work hard and creatively to give players a functional gaming experience on the smaller screen space, made a bit easier by the fact that mobile devices can use touchscreen technology to save some room when it comes to buttons for control while not impeding a player’s view of the action.

Smartwatches have even smaller screens and at the same time also use touchscreen technology, so most games other than simple slots are very tough to play. Smartwatches are more ideally suited to slots and video poker, as well as games such as keno and bingo, but the more complex options such as Blackjack or Roulette may be very hard to execute properly.

Complimenting Mobile Gaming

Just like the general use of a smartwatch, when it comes to casino game play this wearable tech should be seen as complimentary to mobile gaming, not a full blown replacement.

You can still have great fun on your smartwatch and play a few great real money games, but at the end of the day you do not get the huge game selection of mobile or computer-based casino games.

It is a great way to play games when you do not have a mobile device near or while your mobile device is charging, but the experience is somewhat limited.

There are of course smartwatch-exclusive casino games to try out, but our advice is to not throw away your tablet just yet!
