Casinos In Famous Stories

Casinos are truly exciting places where fortunes can change in an instant, and winning big could be just a spin of the slots reels, or a hand of blackjack, away. As a result, it only makes sense for many popular stories to be set in these exhilarating establishments.

While there are, of course, plenty of popular movies featuring casinos, there are equally as many books and comics. We recap on some of the most popular stories featuring casinos so that the next time you’re looking for a good book to enjoy, you can combine your two favourite pastimes into one.

James Bond – Casino Royale

While the Bond series of books and movies have always received with much acclaim all over the world, very few people are aware of the fact that Ian Fleming also created a comic strip detailing the adventures of his famous character. The first of these comic strips, Casino Royale, was published in 1958. Here, readers got to take a quick look into the life of the agent they loved so much, and follow him around on adventures that saw him involved in a number of risky escapades inside the casino.

Roll the Bones

This book is all based on fact, but provides an interesting angle on the way in which we look at casinos. It was written by David G. Schwartz, the University of Nevada’s Director of the Centre for Gaming Research. Schwartz takes a look at the origins of casino games and their accompanying paraphernalia and accessories. Along the way, the book also details some of the most famous casino stories of all time. It makes for an interesting read from an entirely new perspective, and perfect for players who want to know more about games and their origins.

Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas

No list about casinos that form the backdrop for famous stories would be complete without Hunter S. Thompson’s iconic novel. In this story, a journalist (who himself is quite an eccentric character) travels to Las Vegas, the casino capital of the world, with his lawyer. It’s a psychedelic take on the city and the casinos in Vegas, and to this day it is considered one of Thompson’s best, most vivid works.

While this list contains just three of the many books and comics out there, there are plenty more fun, interesting stories featuring casinos. Keep an eye out for them, as they may just make your online casino experiences all the more enjoyable!
